It was a monument, mostly in the shadow of French politicians. Patrick Buisson, essayist, journalist and political adviser to Nicolas Sarkozy between 2007 and 2012, has died at the age of 74. He was found on Tuesday morning at his home in Les Sables-d'Olonne (Vendée), Le Parisien has learned.
Patrick Buisson has long defended the union of the right. In particular, he had advocated an alliance between the FN, the RPR and the UDF. As an advisor to Nicolas Sarkozy, he was at the origin of the creation of a Ministry of Immigration and National Identity. "Patrick is the one to whom I owe more than anyone else," said the former President of the Republic, when he presented him with the Legion of Honour in September 2007.
In the 1980s, Patrick Buisson joined the far-right newspaper Minute as a journalist, before becoming its editor-in-chief in 1986. He then became head of Valeurs actuelles, before joining LCI. In 2007, he took over the management of the History channel.
Last April, he released his latest book, "Décadanse", a political-historical analysis of the evolution of society over more than half a century.
