Merry Christmas or "Merry Crisis"? A rather practical gift is given to the climate Shakira, who is active in Germany and Austria, from her supporters.

Munich – The best Christmas gifts are the ones you really need. The immediate environment of Anja Windl, a member of the Last Generation, seems to have taken this to heart. At least that's what emerges from an Instagram story that the activist, also known as "Climate Shakira", shared over the Christmas holidays.

Most recently, the Bavarian-born woman was in preventive detention in Austria, on suspicion of serious damage to property. In both Vienna and Munich, the 25-year-old regularly participates in protest actions of the Last Generation. Since April of this year, the climate Shakira has even been threatened with deportation back to Germany because of her role in protest actions.

"Merry Crisis" – Climate Shakira of the "Last Generation" gets super glue for Christmas

What do you give a climate activist for Christmas? Apparently, the answer can be quite simple: everyday utensils such as super glue. At least that's what Anja Windl's supporters thought. The member of the "Last Generation Austria" shared a picture on Instagram over the Christmas holidays in which she holds two packs of superglue in her hand and captioned it "Merry Crisis", as reported by the Austrian daily newspaper oe24.at.

Windl also quoted a message in the Instagram story that presumably accompanied the cynical gift in some eyes: "I didn't know what sand you used, otherwise I would have gotten it too." A mixture of sand and super glue is used in the Last Generation protests to create a concrete-like substance that activists use to glue themselves to streets or, as recently, even to airport runways.

Climate Shakira under observation – she was "told not to complicate the investigation"

On 21 and 22 November, members of the Last Generation in Austria, including Anja Windl, had concreted themselves firmly on the A2 at the Vösendorf junction, the south-east bypass A23 at the Altmannsdorfer Ast and on the Wiener Ring. Shortly thereafter, Windl was detained by the police. The public prosecutor's office requested pre-trial detention against her on suspicion of serious damage to property.

By November 24, Windl was free again. However, as the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation (ORF) reported at the time, she was "told not to complicate the investigations and to be available to the authorities". So it is not known whether the super glue at Christmas will be the prelude to new protest actions by the climate Shakira. The Last Generation in Germany is already planning an action for 2024 on February 3 in Berlin. In December, the Last Generation once again caused a stir and discussion with color attacks on Christmas trees.
