A band in a playful mood, a cheerful mayor and a cheerful group of guests: the municipality of Wörthsee has honored its volunteers.

Despite the snow, more than 120 people accepted the invitation.

Steinebach

- The event has a tradition: Since 2006, the community of Wörthsee has been thanking its volunteers with a reception every year.

This used to take place in the town hall, “and we made the rolls ourselves,” says Wörthsee mayor Christel Muggenthal.

In 2019, everyone met for the first time in the foyer of the elementary school, and after a two-year Corona break, the community kept it this way - also for reasons of space.

On Thursday there was again praise and thanks from the mayor, along with lively music from Zwiderwurzn and delicious snacks from Johannes Englmeier.

The community invited around 150 people, and a good 120 came.

“Times haven’t gotten better,” but Mayor Muggenthal didn’t want to insist on that.

“I figured that you probably know best if and what you’re worried about and you don’t have to hear it from me,” she said.

She would rather look forward and what makes a community strong.

“We know that we depend on our volunteers, and we trust in you too.” This makes the community resilient, in the sense of “vulnerable but invincible”.

The thank you ceremony began with the three local fire departments.

Wolfgang Burger and Jule Heuchert presented the work of the water rescue service, specifically the youth work with which it generates new blood.

Now it's out: The donor of the defibrillators in Wörthsee is Matthias Huber.

He quickly bought the devices “while we were still discussing costs and locations,” revealed Muggenthal.

“Respect, Mr. Huber.”

Marita Heßmann, chairwoman of the neighborhood help group, briefly outlined its broad scope - with 500 members, 30 employees, 30 volunteers, 40 nursing service patients and four locations.

The NBH is closely linked to “Walchstadt helps”.

The association supports children with cancer and their families, and Christiane Schmalz is responsible, among others.

Sassa Bäumler has taken over the management of the group of helpers, “they are our fire department when it comes to supporting asylum seekers and helping with integration”.

Christine Rose and Mosafer Saghigi support the Herrschinger Tafel, the Rotary Club is helping the community with its Ramadama campaign, for which Muggenthal thanked President Kerstin Flötner.

Thanks also went to Angelika Kempe, Monika Durst and Robert Kirchner on behalf of the school helpers.

Kathrin Quak works on school route safety for the Verkehrs-AG.

Meanwhile, volunteer IT consultants make seniors fit for computers and smartphones.

Muggenthal also mentioned the senior citizens' advisory councils.

“I would like to thank you for your commitment, even if you are rather dissatisfied with the pace of implementation in the municipality,” she said, referring to the recent discussion. As is well known, the current councilors do not want to run again out of resentment.

Then came Jakob Aumiller's appearance.

He is not only a CSU local councilor, but also chairman of the d'Donarbichler traditional costume association, and it has big plans for 2024: Not only is it celebrating its 40th birthday, but it is also organizing the 63rd Huosigau Home Days from June 6th to 9th (we reported).

On closer inspection, this costs the club not only many volunteer hours but also around 130,000 euros, which is why, for example, the festival tent is the largest that has ever stood in Steinebach.

“But we have it under control,” said Aumiller with cheerful laughter and looking at managing director Christa Heintel, “who also has to support everything.”

She used the moment to point out the European elections, which were also taking place on June 9th, in a slightly tormented tone.

So it might be.

By the way, there will still be a lake festival, and the Donarbichlers won't miss that.

The Wörthsee brass band, Walter Fuchs from the Wörthsee cultural association, Wolfgang Herre from the men's choir, Sunna Stolle from the Kunstfreunde, Tanja Schmalzl and Karin Schneider from the children's art action and inclusion days, Elke Höllrich, who gives music lessons in the primary school, Barbara Gäch from the Wörthsee farmer's stage, Diana Rotzinger from the Theaterkitz – “without all of you, cultural life in Wörthsee would be poorer,” Muggenthal was sure.

And also included the Sculpture Trail association with Tanja Schmalzl, Juliane Seeliger and Johannes Englmeier.

Norbert Strangfeld and Matthias Fiedl from SC Wörthsee, Gerhard Zieris from the sailing club, Maximilian Krumm, Karin Madenach and Erich Gröver as organizers of the Wörthsee triathlon and Dr.

Harald Lossau and Sabine Fuchs from the city cycling team could not be missing from Muggenthal's speech.

She also thanked Daniel Treplin from the fishing association, Marianne Maiwald from the fruit and horticultural association, Stefan Schilling from the LBV and Doja Muggenthaler from the Biodiversity Initiative.

Herbert Meyer was present as a field jury, Christine Setz-wein was the reading sponsor, and Anita Wihan, who packs 500 St. Nicholas bags for the Christmas market every year, received special praise.

The speaker council of the youth center was there, Benedikt Padberg, who received the Founder's Prize in 2023 for his “Friendly Captcha”, and the Soyer company anyway.

“Our treasurer is also happy about your loyalty to the location,” joked Muggenthal to the company representatives.

With benevolent words to the local council, Muggenthal closed the list.

My news

  • Major damage: Lüßbach Bridge closed

  • Four injured and 90,000 euros in damages

  • More space for the photovoltaic lambs

  • Mourning for the senior manager

  • Expansion of asylum accommodation: Municipality with rejection to the district office - read “It ignores reality”.

  • Money is tight, daycare buildings and summer pools are safe

Muggenthal borrowed the sentence “You have to drink in order to love everyone” from the writer Oskar Maria Graf.

Luckily, the volunteers in Wörthsee don't think that way.

“But they love what they do and, closely linked to it, their fellow human beings too.”
