Nino de Angelo makes no secret of his addictions and speaks openly about his difficult past.
When writing his songs, the pop star still reaches for the bottle.
Cologne - Pop star Nino de Angelo (60) has had an eventful life: alcohol and drug excesses as well as illnesses dominated the singer's life.
He now also speaks openly about all the hurdles, such as his difficult childhood.
However, as a guest at the “Kölner Treff”, Nino de Angelo also admits that he still drinks a lot of alcohol while writing songs.
Nino de Angelo needs alcohol when writing songs: “Half a bottle of whiskey helps a lot”
Nino de Angelo, who recently called off his wedding, refuses to give up alcohol completely.
“I'm already drinking.
[...] When I start drinking, I drink.
So it's best if I don't even start," he admits in the WDR program "Kölner Treff" in conversation with Susan Link (47) and guest presenter Elke Heidenreich (80).
His job makes it difficult for him to abstain from alcohol.
“That’s also difficult, especially with creative processes.
I write a lot of songs - almost all of my songs - myself, a lot of lyrics.
And sometimes I just can't get any further.
And half a bottle of whiskey helps a lot to surpass yourself when it comes to lyrics,” says Nino de Angelo.
The pop star is then partly surprised by himself.
“Things come out that I listen to three days later and think to myself: Where did that come from?
[...] I somehow can't manage that sober," he explains.
However, the musician also makes it clear: “This shouldn’t be a recipe because it’s also very, very harmful.”
After a turbulent lifestyle: Nino de Angelo enjoys country life in the Allgäu
Nino de Angelo now lives with his partner Simone in the Allgäu and enjoys country life there.
“If I still lived in the big city, I think I wouldn’t be here anymore.
“That saved my life,” says the 60-year-old in the “Kölner Treff”.
He raves about his quiet life: “I now lead a relatively healthy life.
I have the opportunity to work there, I have peace and quiet there, we really have a little paradise.” Simone is also “a rock in the surf”.

The “Out of Eden” interpreter sees the reason for his self-destructive nature, among other things, in the fact that his parents had already lost a son before he was born.
