Highlights: 77 additional secure parking spaces for bicycles in Malakoff: “It encourages the practice”. “A lot of people have been waiting for this for a long time, it’s going in the right direction” “The objective is to reach 1,000 secure spaces by 2026 and to quadruple the number of secure spaces at stations,” announces Jean-Didier Berger, mayor of Clamart. 100,000 places in stations by 2030 and 40,000 additional places near the stations of the new Grand Paris Express lines.

The new secure bicycle parking, inaugurated this weekend and whose cost is estimated at 558,000 euros, also offers users repair kits.

Get off metro line 13 without anxiety.

Or rather, with the certainty of finding his very expensive bicycle.

Dozens of cyclists have already benefited from this peace of mind since the installation of the secure bicycle parking inaugurated on Saturday in Malakoff, a stone's throw from the Plateau-de-Vanves station.

The space, accessible by subscription and free for holders of a Navigo pass, offers a secure refuge to those who wish to come and take the metro on the handlebars of their two-wheelers, in addition to repair and inflation kits.

“An additional tool for the mobility transition,” rejoices Jacqueline Belhomme, the mayor (PCF) of Malakoff, where according to her 70% of trips are made on foot, by public transport or by bike.

“It’s reassuring,” says Mounir, facilitator within the Malakoff Vélo-École association.

With this kind of parking, you're not there wondering if you're going to find your bike or if it's going to be missing the handlebars, a wheel, or even both.

It encourages practice.

“This above all responds to a real demand from users,” notes Aurélie Malhangu, sustainable territory director of the public establishment Vallée Sud Grand Paris (VSGP).

Thefts are frequent and bicycles are more and more expensive.

Objective: 1,000 secure places by 2026

In addition to reassuring users, the new equipment, financed by VSGP and Île-de-France Mobilités, also makes it possible to respect the recommendations of the law on the orientation of mobility which requires equipping stations with parking.

“The objective is to reach 1,000 secure spaces by 2026 and to quadruple the number of secure spaces at stations,” announces Jean-Didier Berger, mayor (LR, Libres!) of Clamart and president of VSGP.

If we want to encourage cycling in the long term, we must increase development capacity.

Thus, the Malakoff-Étienne-Dolet station was also recently equipped with a car park with 60 secure spaces.

And by the end of the first half of 2024, three new stations – Les Baconnets in Antony, Lucie-Aubrac and Barbara in Bagneux – will also share 200 new places which will be added to the 558 that already exist in the region around the stations of Fontenay-aux-Roses, Antony, Bourg-la-Reine, Clamart or Châtillon-Montrouge.

“It’s going in the right direction”

“We want to equip all the stations,” insists Florence de Pampelonne, administrator of Île-de-France Mobilités.

100,000 places in stations by 2030 and 40,000 additional places near the stations of the new Grand Paris Express lines.

In the meantime, of the 77 spaces in the new secure car park, 21 have already found takers.

“A lot of people have been waiting for this for a long time, it’s going in the right direction,” rejoices Pierre, a volunteer with the Bourg-la-Reine à vélo association.

We should now tackle the problem of bicycle parking at home.

Too many people give up on the practice because they cannot park their bike once they get home.

Some people try, have their bike stolen once, then twice, and end up giving up.

A new challenge for Vallée Sud Grand Paris, which intends to increase home-work travel by bicycle by 15% by 2050.
