A 33-year-old from the Pfaffenhofen district caused a serious accident on the A92 on Sunday with a blood alcohol level of 1.2 per mille and therefore legally unfit to drive.
Langenpreising - Three people were injured, the Freising traffic police estimate the damage to both vehicles and the motorway to be almost 100,000 euros.
Their spokesman Michael Binder said that the Pfaffenhofener was driving his BMW on the A92 towards Deggendorf when he crashed into the back of a Skoda between the Langenpreising and Moosburg Süd junctions at around 3.30 p.m.
It was driven by a 56-year-old from Landshut.
Both vehicles skidded and crashed into the right guardrail.
While investigating the accident, the police discovered that the person who caused the accident was drunk.
An initial test showed the value of 1.2 per mille.
He then had to have a blood sample taken and his driver's license was confiscated.
Both drivers suffered minor injuries, as did the passenger in the Skoda.
Both cars had to be towed.
The Pfaffenhofener is now facing criminal proceedings.
In addition to the police and emergency services, the Langenpreising volunteer fire department was on duty with four vehicles and 25 personnel.
