The Hohenfurch local council once again addressed the question of whether the two trees should be allowed to remain in the cemetery.

Numerous citizens spoke out in favor of its preservation.

Hohenfurch – What happens to the two trees in the Hohenfurch cemetery?

This was already a topic at the last meeting last year.

As reported, people who have to tend a grave in the immediate vicinity of the trees were disturbed by the foliage of the two approximately 50-year-old globe maples.

Now a decision has been made.

“After the newspaper article, we received a lot of letters,” said Mayor Guntram Vogelsgesang in the introduction.

The main tenor of these letters to the community was the request to preserve the trees.

Among other things, with references to nature conservation.

That's why Peter Schratt, the community's nature conservation officer, was the first to speak: "In the last few years, a bunch of trees have been removed from the cemetery, including three birches and locust trees," he referred to the reduced number of trees in the cemetery.

As in December, Schratt advocated pruning the globe maples, “but then they also have to be looked after.” In his opinion, this pruning could be done with volunteers.

He would also help himself.

Dig up trees and replant them somewhere else?

Local councilor Markus Rieger suggested digging up the two trees and replanting them on the site of the new building yard.

“I advise against this because this is a big operation for which we need excavators.

And the success of them growing again is not guaranteed,” replied Peter Schratt.

Christine Grünewald and Martin Knopp also spoke out against felling.

“The leaves are simply a part of autumn, just like the snow in winter,” said Knopp, and Grünewald added: “For me, the arguments for preserving the trees are much more convincing than those for felling them.”

Schratt's proposal was finally accepted with one vote against.

The maples are simply cut back.
