According to the new instructions, soldiers are required to shoot in the air if they recognize a suspicious figure, and into the lower body if it approaches them. Last week, IDF soldiers at the border of the Gaza Strip criticized the lack of clarity of the instructions to open fire, this against the background of an increase in cases of "suspicious characters" on the fence. Following that criticism, today (Monday) officials in the division refined the instructions.

Last Wednesday , the reserve fighters of the Gaza Division who operate in the north of the Gaza Strip told Walla that there was an alarming increase in the scope of warning shots following the approach of suspicious figures towards the IDF forces and the border line.

The fighters emphasized the confusion they feel due to the lack of clarity of the instructions to open fire in these cases.

"You never know if the person who approached is a terrorist or a civilian looking for his house that was destroyed," said the fighters, "they don't necessarily walk around with guns openly. They are all dressed in jackets, so you don't really see what they are carrying with them."

The fighters said that when a suspicion arises, they ask for permission from the division commander to fire a warning shot. According to the instructions, the fighters said, if they do not see that the suspects have weapons and there is no apparent danger in them, they must not open fire.

A short time ago, following the sharp criticism on the subject, officials in the Gaza Division refined the opening fire instructions.

According to the refinement, if a suspect approaches the fighters or the strip fence, one must shoot in the air.

If after the shooting the suspect is still approaching them, shoot to hit the lower body.

The concerns of many fighters come after the tragic case in which Yotam Haim, Samer Talalka and Alon Shimriz, the three abductees who managed to escape from Hamas captivity, were accidentally shot by IDF fighters in the Gaza Strip. We see more Palestinians, we estimate that these are Hamas terrorists who came to build an intelligence image.

At first you could say they were curious and didn't understand what was happening, but when the IDF destroyed a lot of infrastructure in the area, they have nothing to look for close to the fence."
