Collapsed buildings in Marseille: judicial information on the expanded rue de Tivoli

This is an important decision for residents of rue de Tivoli, where the fatal collapse of several buildings occurred last April in this district of Marseille.

This Monday, in a press release, the Marseille prosecutor's office announced the extension of the scope of judicial information on this case.

The investigating judges are now seized of acts of destruction, damage, involuntary deterioration by explosion or fire.

It is in addition to a previous judicial investigation opened on April 29 for acts of homicide and involuntary injuries.

As a reminder, on the night of April 8 to 9, 2023, an explosion at 17 rue de Tivoli caused the collapse of several buildings and killed eight people found dead under the rubble.

New civil parties

“This extension of referral allows investigating judges to now receive as civil parties plaintiffs who have suffered material damage directly linked to the facts

,” specifies the prosecution.

Until now, only the families of the deceased victims had been able to file a civil claim.
