In 2022, Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock had a new aircraft crew flown in for an earlier return trip.
There is now a hail of criticism from the Union.
Berlin – As Foreign Minister, air travel is the order of the day.
Annalena Baerbock (Greens) is now being criticized for such a business trip.
During their visit to Morocco and Denmark, the last item on the program in Copenhagen was omitted.
She had pilots flown in so that she could return to Berlin earlier.
The Union in particular criticizes the approach to the trip in 2022.
Extra plane: Baerbock has a new plane crew flown in for an earlier return journey
According to information from Bild
, the Foreign Office protocol requested an earlier departure from the Federal Ministry of Defense's flight readiness on August 26, 2022
.
The return flight should therefore no longer start at 6:20 p.m. as planned, but at 3:30 p.m. - almost three hours earlier.
Due to statutory rest periods for pilots, the crew of the A-340 was not allowed to complete the flight early.
In order to enable the desired earlier departure date, a new flight crew was flown from Cologne to Copenhagen on a second government aircraft.
This then flew back to the Rhineland empty.
Cancellation of appointment: Foreign Ministry confirms earlier return journey
The Foreign Ministry confirmed “the cancellation of an appointment in Copenhagen” to
Bild
.
“The readiness to fly ensured that the delegation could return to Berlin in time for the minister’s follow-up appointments,” it continued.
However, the ministry did not disclose which dates these were.
According to information from the newspaper, there were, among other things, an internal government telephone call and an internal party video conference.
“Green double standards” Union rails against Baerbock
The Union in particular is now railing against the Foreign Minister: “Typical green double standards: increasing taxes on airline tickets, preaching climate protection and then maxing out the willingness to fly for personal comfort.
“That’s not possible,” said CSU General Secretary Martin Huber to
Bild.

Baerbock, who announced at the start of her term that she wanted to travel in a more climate-friendly way, has not yet commented on the special plane.
She is also on everyone's lips in the media because of other topics, such as speculation about her supposed luxury watch.
