A big anniversary for the Schliersee fire department is coming up this year: the force is 150 years old.

A look at the history shows that fire protection was an issue in town much earlier.

Schliersee

– Long before the people of Schliersee had their first spray, preventive fire protection was an issue in the town.

A corresponding requirement has come down to us from 1560: “To build a wall and weave the Kuchl and to build a chimney through the roof” was imposed on a certain Gilg Reuter for the new construction of his house behind the vineyard.

In combination with the loosened-up construction style for a long time, today's market town has been spared from major fires, despite the houses that were often made entirely of wood, writes the Schliersee volunteer fire department in its chronicle.

Perhaps that is why it took a threat from the Miesbach Royal District Office to persuade the citizens to set up a volunteer fire department in 1871.

This was done by 85 men on December 27, 1874 in the Gasthaus zur Post.

And so the troop can celebrate its 150th anniversary this year.

She does this in June with a festival program lasting several days.

Even if the reaction to the authorities' fire protection plans was initially rather cautious in Schliersee, the dangers of a fire and its prevention or fighting were always taken very seriously.

According to the chronicle, the first fire engine was made by a bell founder in Augsburg as early as 1739.

In 1864, the community also bought such an extinguishing device - and even partly on credit.

Only 13 of the 713 necessary guilders came from the town hall coffers, 350 from donations, the rest from a loan.

When it was founded, the Schliersee fire department had a suction and pressure syringe as well as ladders and hose material.

Everything was stored in a depot in the Pfarrstadel, and a parade ground was available on the Untere Leiten.

Although attending some exercises was compulsory, willingness declined, especially in the districts of Westenhofen and Glashütte (today Breitenbach).

Westenhofen residents founded their own fire department

In 1901, the citizens there took fire protection into their own hands.

72 men founded the independent Westenhofen fire department.

According to the chronicle, the commitment was impressive: the number of active participants quickly rose to 138, and thanks to many donations, the people of Westenhofen were able to purchase a suction and pressure pump and an extension ladder by 1903 without any subsidy from the community.

When a fire fighting group was formed in Neuhaus in 1921, it was affiliated with the Schliersee fire department.

The construction of the community water supply made it possible to build hydrants, and the number of hoses grew to 650 meters.

In 1931, motorization arrived: initially the people of Schlierse received a motorized sprayer, and two years later the people of Westenhofen received a small, portable version.

In 1935 it was merged to form the Schliersee fire department.

After the war, a Spitzingsee fire-fighting group was founded among the emergency services, which then again operated as a volunteer fire department, in order to be able to quickly assist the number of private and guest houses there, which was growing as tourism grew, in the event of a fire.

The Schliersee fire department received a special gift for its 80th anniversary in 1955 with the new equipment house at the train station, which is still their home today.

Over the years, the troop's tasks grew far beyond fire protection.

In addition to operations in the event of floods and accidents, there was also water protection to prevent oil spills.

In order to be well prepared for the future, the volunteer fire department is now structurally reorganizing itself with 66 active members and its commander Andreas Dietmannsberger.

With the boathouse on Schliersee and the equipment shed in Neuhaus, two new buildings are planned.

It has also already been decided to purchase an all-terrain personnel carrier in order to be able to better meet the aid deadline at Spitzingsee from Neuhaus.

In order to be able to continue to provide voluntary service in this form, the fire brigade association continues to ask for donations or a supporting membership.

And of course the troupe is hoping for many guests at the big anniversary party.

The festival program

will take place from Thursday to Sunday, June 13th to 16th, in the tent on the Seewiese.

Concerts by Roland Hefter and the Oache Brothers are planned at the beer tapping (Thursday), a party evening with the Bandits (Friday), a suckling pig dinner with the Tegernsee Tanzlmusi (Saturday) and the festival service in the spa park with a parade (Sunday).
