“Uncle Tom” is, so to speak, a colleague of the corner shop, only without an aunt: owner Thomas Kaczmarek is known by many as “Tom”.

The company is based in Percha.

“Uncle Tom”, a service provider in the vending machine industry based in Percha, is selling more and more copies throughout Germany.

Only in the Five Lakes Region has the “purchasing of the future” not yet been established – that should change.

Percha - In Dießen, the empty vending machines from the Percha company “Unkel Tom” are currently still standing in the fisheries building 43. The building committee voted 6:3 against the planned 24-hour vending machine shop.

“We would like to open the store in Dießen because the residents wanted it,” explains company owner Thomas Kaczmarek to Starnberger Merkur.

The machines already exist elsewhere.

In 2017, the project developer founded the company, which was named “Uncle Tom Management” two and a half years ago.

Today the headquarters is on Tassiloweg in Percha.

The company sells around 50 different models of self-service machines, fills them if necessary and operates so-called machine stores.

Chips, drinks, cakes, eggs, salads, sandwiches, e-cigarettes, wine and cemetery candles, among other products, can be taken from the various vending machines.

“We adapt the machine to what the customer needs,” explains the owner.

If the buyer decides on soup, he can heat it up and eat it directly using a microwave module.

If a customer does not want to fill his machine himself, “Uncle Tom’s” filling service will do it for him.

This fills the machines with branded goods from our own wholesaler.

Products that are closer to their best-before date are donated to the Starnberger Tafel in good time.

With the overall concept, Kaczmarek wants to close gaps in local supply.

“When an older lady buys milk and eggs on Sunday at 11 a.m. to bake a cake for a family visit, my heart swells,” enthuses the 55-year-old and adds: “Such a situation encourages us to stay on top of it are the right path.”

160 new “Uncle Tom” machines nationwide in 2023

A path that wasn't always easy.

In October 2022, “Uncle Tom” stocked a 24-hour vending machine shop on Wittelsbacherstrasse in Starnberg.

A year later the excerpt followed: The landlord did not extend the rental agreement.

And this despite the fact that the industry is booming nationwide.

In 2023, “Uncle Tom” was able to set up 160 machines; this year the company owner expects 300.

“Nobody here in the region understands that this is the shopping of the future,” regrets Kaczmarek.

In his opinion, citizens should engage more with the issue - something he can help with: "If anyone wants to get information for free, they can contact us."

Discussions about the vending machine store in Diessen are ongoing.

“We assume that we will be there again at the next meeting.

A lot of things are clarified here.” Thomas Kaczmarek cannot agree with the arguments about higher noise and higher traffic volumes.
