In 2016, De Marker reported that Netanyahu's adviser at the time, Nir Hefetz, was looking into establishing a conservative commercial television channel in Israel, based on the operating model of Fox News.
According to the publication, Chafetz was interested in finding partners for the project, including Rupert Murdoch.
Later, "Haaretz" reported on Murdoch's secret visit for a meeting with Netanyahu.
According to the publication, the purpose of the meeting was to convince Murdoch Jr. to purchase the Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper.
In the background of the visit is Netanyahu's trial in the 2,000 and 4,000 cases in which Netanyahu is accused of giving or promising exchanges for sympathetic coverage.
Netanyahu, for his part, has never denied that he is working to "change the face of Israeli media in order to make it diverse."
