Munich – Bavarian forest owners can now apply for subsidies to repair snow damage.
Forestry Minister Michaela Kaniber pointed this out in Munich.
With this financial help, it wants to curb the spread of the bark beetle in forest stands that have been severely damaged by the snow masses of the past few weeks.
Quick action is important, emphasizes the minister and urgently appeals to all forest owners: “After the snowfall is before the bark beetle!
Therefore, work on all broken tree crowns and trunk parts quickly before the start of the beetle season in spring.
This will protect your forest from bark beetle infestation.”
Support and advice
The Bavarian Forestry Administration has temporarily opened special funding for the repair of major snow damage.
Accordingly, applications for care measures are also possible for stands over 15 meters high and can be submitted by the end of February.
However, the minister advises to be particularly careful: “Repairing snow damage is very dangerous!
Particular risks arise from cracked treetops or trees that are bent and under tension.
If you have no experience, you should definitely seek the help of professionals,” said the minister.
Forest owners receive support and advice in caring for their forests from the authorities for food, agriculture and forestry as well as from forestry associations.
Forest owners can find their local advisory forester at www.försterfinder.de.
