During the action week a year and a half ago, parking bays were transformed into meeting points with the help of red chairs and benches.

This is now to be implemented permanently in some places.

The Untere Bahnhofstraße should be made more attractive with the help of so-called parklets.

This is a mix of furnished outdoor areas with parking spaces for cargo bikes.

Germering - It has long been decided by the city council that Lower Bahnhofstrasse should be rebuilt, also in order to improve the quality of stay.

A model experiment one and a half years ago showed the direction in which this could go.

The Raumstation collective from Vienna was on site for a week and presented new uses for the street space.

With the active help of passers-by, stackable seating options were also created.

Several parking bays in front of the shops were converted into meeting points, which were also accepted.

Final report

Petra Tech, the site promoter, has now presented an official final report of the project week to the city council.

At the same time, the city councilors should decide how to proceed - also in view of the fact that the positive results of the project week do not go to waste, according to Tech.

Greenery in individual areas is still visible in the street space.

On the one hand, plant troughs were set up, and on the other hand, the bare planting areas of two trees were treated in such a way that plants sprouted there after a short time.

The train station pharmacy and the Bookmark bookstore have taken on a so-called casting sponsorship for this purpose.

The parking bay in front of the Niki Augenoptik shop was transformed into a place to stay a year and a half ago with the help of a red bench.

Bicycle racks have also been set up here.

From a business perspective, the measure has more than proven its worth.

Bicycle stands and seating would be very well received.

It should stay that way if possible.

Red bench and plant trough

A red bench and plant trough were also placed across the street next to the stairs leading to the Vitalia health food store.

Here too, the shop took over the care of the plants.

Because it will still take some time until the street between Landsberger Straße and Kleiner Stachus is finally redesigned, several parking bays will be converted into so-called parklets, according to Petra Tech.

In this way, urgently needed parking spaces for cargo bikes could be created.

At the zebra crossing

The best place to park this type of bike is the parallel parking lot directly at the zebra crossing in front of Schuh Thumann.

There could be room for three of these bikes.

According to Petra Tech, the owner of the business would welcome this.

Implementation would be supported as part of the “Living Centers” urban development funding.

Details still need to be clarified, explained Tech.

But it is clear that there is no support if you just want to create a parking bay.

According to Petra Tech, the benches and chairs created as part of the campaign week cannot be used any further, even though they were always stored in the construction yard in winter.

The city would therefore have to spend around 76,000 euros for three planned parklets including furniture and bicycle racks.

In return, she would receive around 45,600 euros from the urban development program.
