A British couple say having sex with others saved their relationship and are encouraging others to try.

Gemma, 43, and Daz, 40, have been swingers for five years and believe that it not only saved their relationship, but also strengthened their relationship.

"It's probably something everyone should consider," Gemma told Jam Press on Friday.

"It's a great way to improve the relationship and get closer through shared experiences. It also allows you to build more trust with your partner and overcome jealousy, communication and basic ego issues," she continued, adding that it also helped her increase her self-confidence in her appearance.

Gemma and Daz started dating in 2014 and were monogamous for five years, before admitting to each other that their eyes started wandering.

After many conversations they realized that their relationship probably wouldn't last unless they did something drastic to spice up their sex life.

"Initially, the biggest challenge was the jealousy," Gemma admitted, saying that she and Daz decided to ease themselves into the swinger lifestyle, starting their new path by attending parties, just as spectators.

"For us, it was right to start taking things slowly, gradually," she explained.

"To start with seeing your partner kissing another person first, then in the second step maybe naked next to another person, then a light touch. It was about 12 months before we had our first full partner exchange experience."

And if you thought that leading a life like this meant having estranged sex with a different couple every day, Gemma claims that it's just the opposite:

"People think it's an anonymous, one-time arrangement, and I guess for some people it can be, but we really want to connect with couples first. ", she stated.

Gemma and Daz say they often get to know the other swingers before they all go to bed together.

"We spend some time getting to know them and actually go on a date with them before anything sexual even happens," added the blonde, saying "it's just as fun as the act."

Gemma added that the swinger community is a relatively small one, so it often feels like they're "catching up with a group of friends" when they go to a sex club or swinger event.

They hope the community will expand soon - and are going public to break down stigmas about swingers.

While they encourage other couples to try the lifestyle, Gemma and Daz say communication is key:

"Be clear between yourself and your partner exactly what you want to get out of it." , stated Gemma.

"We recommend to anyone who is considering it, to discuss your feelings about each event after it has happened to make sure that you are both still fully invested and enjoying the journey, and don't forget that first and foremost - you are in this together,"
