A 43-year-old gendarme from Haut-Rhin died this Monday, January 29 in the exercise of his duties, we learned from the national gendarmerie.
Thomas Binder, 43, was a warrant officer member of the Hohrod high mountain gendarmerie platoon (Haut-Rhin).
According to the gendarmerie press release, Thomas Binder took part this Monday in a mountain rescue exercise on the rocky ridge of Spitzkoepfe, in the Vosges massif.
“Swept away by a landslide, which occurred in circumstances as yet undetermined, the soldier was found lifeless shortly after the accident
,” the press release specifies.
Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin shared
“his great sadness”
at the announcement of the gendarme’s death.
He reacted in a post on the social network X, bringing his
“thoughts for his family and his comrades”
