STORY – Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso, led by officers, announced they were leaving ECOWAS, the regional organization.


The declaration came on Sunday without any real notice.

The juntas in power in Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger announced on Sunday, at the opening of the television news, their withdrawal “

without delay

” from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

This hasty exit from the countries of

the “khaki alliance

” was only half surprising.

It is, in fact, part of a sort of logic of rupture with its past and its neighbors imposed by the officers who have ruled Mali since 2020, Burkina Faso since 2022 and Niger since July.

“The timing is quite unexpected.
