The White House spokesman, John Kirby, today (Monday) referred to the prisoner deal that is taking shape with Hamas and said that the talks that have taken place so far with the terrorist organization have been "constructive".
"The discussions with Hamas were constructive. I would describe them as sober and serious. But there was progress. We successfully came into contact with Qatar, with Egypt and with Israel and I think we made progress. I want to be careful, I don't want to be perceived as too optimistic."
"I don't think we have a deal yet that is inevitable or that we can announce it. But we have certainly made some progress and if we can move forward with the deal we can also bring about a significant pause in the fighting and we can get all the abductees out and the aid in. There is a lot of promise here but there is There's also a lot of diplomatic work to be done," added Kirby.
Earlier, the White House confirmed that there is indeed a working framework for a prisoner deal with Hamas, but they did not specify at what stage the framework is and what the next steps are in the negotiations towards a deal.
