Landsberg – Happy Birthday to the Landsberg energy agency LENA!

The club celebrated its tenth birthday on January 23rd.

Reason enough to look back on the past decade – what has LENA achieved in the last few years?

The association was founded because of the district's climate protection concept, which was approved by the district council in October 2013, explains the association's chairman, Berthold Lesch.

“The concept was that an energy association should be founded” – it started with 61 members.

One of the first measures was the eRUDA event (electric around Lake Ammersee) in the summer of 2014.

“We introduced the citizens to everything about electromobility, e-cars, e-bikes.” Test rides with the bikes or cars were also possible, said the chairman.

In September 2014, the first energy and construction fair took place at the Landsberg Agricultural Education Center.

Another LENA initiative, which is also included in the district's climate protection concept, was the electricity saving check: so-called electricity saving helpers visited low-income households and explained to the residents where they could save electricity.

In addition, these people were also provided with emergency aid, such as modern LEDs instead of old incandescent lamps.

“We did that until March last year, then demand was too low and we stopped it,” said the chairman.

Energy weeks

In the past, the association has organized numerous lectures and brought in professors on a wide variety of topics - always in collaboration with the district's climate protection management.

The lectures and visits, such as those of the Lech dam in Kaufering, took place as part of the association's energy weeks and days.

“In 2020 we started a PV campaign with which we reached 27 communities in the district,” remembers Lesch.

LENA started the warming campaign last year.

“We have thus given citizens the opportunity to obtain factual information on topics such as the Building Energy Act.”

A lot has happened at the club in the last few years.

And what were the biggest successes?

“In addition to the two campaigns, mobile heat transport is also part of it.” The association has been dealing with this topic since 2014.

“How do I get heat that is lost somewhere to where there is a need for heat?” This was worked out further at LENA until the first mobile heat transport in Bavaria was carried out with the district in 2018: “Heat transport for the Lechtalbad Kaufering”.

The heat came from a biogas plant in Weil.

“We then founded a company for this purpose, Lena Service GmbH.” The company grew quickly and was even selling transport containers for mobile heat transport to Switzerland.

Another great success for Lesch: the founding of a full-time energy agency (Klima3), which began its work last year.

Together with the partner associations in Fürstenfeldbruck (ZIEL 21) and the Energy Transition District of Starnberg, LENA decided that the challenges of the energy transition cannot only be met with volunteers.
