A residential area in Montabaur was evacuated because of a “person in a psychological state of emergency”.
Shortly afterwards it becomes clear: the 37-year-old apparently killed three people.

One day after the incident in Montabaur, Rhineland-Palatinate, the police investigations continue.
A 37-year-old man is said to have killed his father, his wife and their son early on Thursday morning.
On Thursday evening, several coffins were removed from the crime scene.
“The investigation into the exact course of the terrible event, the possible motive and the exact background to the crime is still in full swing,” the public prosecutor’s office announced on Thursday.
According to dpa information, investigators assume that the victims were shot.
“According to current knowledge, the background to the crime may have been family disputes.
The perpetrator and victim lived in the same property,” the prosecution in Koblenz said.
The public prosecutor spoke of intentional killing of the 68-year-old father, the 39-year-old woman and their three-year-old son.
The judiciary is conducting an investigation against the German national on strong suspicion of manslaughter.
According to the investigation, the suspected perpetrator is said to have shot himself in the head.
He was taken to hospital with serious injuries - according to the public prosecutor's office, he was diagnosed as brain dead on Thursday.

The investigators assume that the violent act in Montabaur was a “family drama”.
“According to current knowledge, the background to the crime may have been family disputes.
The perpetrator and victim lived in the same property,” said the public prosecutor’s office in Koblenz.

According to current investigation results, the alleged perpetrator called his partner shortly after the crime to tell her about it.
“According to current information, the accused told his partner by telephone shortly after the crime that he had killed three people,” the public prosecutor’s office said on Thursday afternoon.
Following the phone call, the suspected shooter's wife informed the police.
As the prosecution in Koblenz announced, the suspected perpetrator has now suffered brain death.
The police officers discovered him seriously injured in a house where he barricaded himself and negotiated with the police.
Act of violence in Montabaur – police speak of a “tragic family drama”

The police had tried for hours to negotiate with the man from Montabaur, who had barricaded himself in a residential building.
When the police finally intervened at midday and arrested the man, the two adults and the child they found in the apartment were already dead.
The police now describe the situation on SWR as a “tragic family drama”.
Initial investigations indicate that the deceased were close relatives of the alleged perpetrator.
According to police, the man probably suffers from mental illness.
The search for clues in the apartment is currently ongoing.
Elgendorfer Strasse in Montabaur will remain closed until the forensics at the crime scene have been completed.

“Person in a psychological state of emergency”: Police evacuate residential area in Rhineland-Palatinate
First report from January 25th, 10:15 a.m.:
Montabaur – alarm in Rhineland-Palatinate.
A possibly dangerous person is passing through Montabaur.
A major police operation has been underway since the early hours of the morning.
A district was cordoned off.
In the morning, the police were informed “about a person in a psychological state of emergency in a residential area in Montabaur who would pose a danger to himself and others,” writes the Koblenz Presidium.
The area was cordoned off and people were evacuated.
Numerous emergency services on the Eichenwiese in Montabaur: A residential area was evacuated and three bodies were later found.

“A danger to bystanders can currently be ruled out,” the police explained.
Numerous officers are still on duty around Elgendorfer Straße.

A comparable case occurred shortly after Christmas Eve in Northeim.
A man in a psychological state of emergency barricaded himself and was arrested by the police.
Similar was the case of a pensioner from Karlshuld who threatened his family with a firearm.
