Change of staff at the Murnau Volunteer Fire Department: Hans Jais was elected as the new chairman at the annual meeting on Saturday evening.

In this key role he succeeds Michael Montag, who held the office for more than 20 years.

It was a farewell with many emotions.

Murnau

– “I have to admit that there is already a lump in my throat,” said Michael Montag when he stepped up to the microphone in the Zum Murnauer restaurant on Saturday.

Then there was silence, in which Montag struggled for composure.

He was standing here exactly 22 years ago, maybe three meters over there.

Back when there was still an Italian restaurant here at Weilheimer Straße 21.

The building no longer exists and has been replaced by a new building.

Now Monday says goodbye and makes room for something new, for someone new.

There is no one reason for this, there are several.

A conglomerate.

Monday spoke of social change.

The camaraderie, as it was back then, has diminished.

But you shouldn't forget about togetherness.

For him, sticking together means not only going out together “in the red car” and returning, but also being there for each other when things are going wrong.

And of course also to have fun together.

Then there are the administrative aspects, the legal regulations, certain differences and himself. Finally, Montag pulled the brakes and drew the line.

Resignation.

When he looks at “the bunch”, over 100 members came to the meeting, he is sure that things are going well.

Otherwise he wouldn't have come.

At the same time, Montag advised not to elect an active member to the top, but rather a passive one.

Either way, he has “boxes of things at home” for his successor.

Then Monday took off.

“That's it.

22 years,” he said and showed the board his hands.

They were shaking.

Hans Jais elected with 64 yes votes

Montag, who had already announced his unscheduled withdrawal last fall, stood up from his seat again shortly afterwards and thereby clarified his “position”.

He advocated electing a person as chairman who was close to the association and knew what was coming.

He suggested Fabian Sperer.

The former second chairman lives in Austria and says he will not move back from there for the next ten years.

Platoon leader Hans Jais was also nominated for election.

With 64 versus 24 yes votes, the latter won the race.

Jais made it clear that he would not last 22 years.

Together we will manage to have a “good future for the fire service”.

According to him, the tasks and challenges are not getting any less.

“The footsteps you leave behind are very big,” said Mayor Rolf Beuting (ÖDP/Citizens' Forum) on Monday and took off his proverbial hat to his performance.

He wished the new guy every success.

Monday showed that a chairmanship is not just a label, but means a lot of time and responsibility, emphasized Dr.

Michael Rapp (CSU), deputy district administrator and passive member for 20 years.

He has respect and admiration for that.

“The work you have done cannot be summed up,” emphasized district fire inspector Andreas Weiß.

He also appealed to the community: “Don’t let the camaraderie be taken away from you.” Having fun is part of it.

Vice-chairman Klement Eibl praised Monday's commitment.

Such a long time for the benefit of a club is a rarity.

As a farewell, treasurer Astrid Dodel presented the former club boss with a sculpture of Saint Florian.

Dodel drew a parallel: The patron of the fire department stood up for others as a “martyr” until the end.

In Monday's case, she limited the end to the end of the term of office.

Montag is not gone now, but is just taking a few steps back, emphasized the treasurer.

She made it clear that saying goodbye was anything but easy for the former chairman.

But that could neither be overlooked nor ignored that evening anyway.
