Last week, Microsoft revealed that it had been the victim of a cyberattack carried out by Russian government spies.

In particular, the email accounts of company employees and managers also fell under the attacks of hackers.

A few days later, the technology giant claimed that it was not the only target of the operation.

In a new blog post, Microsoft highlighted that "the same actor has targeted other organizations. As part of our usual notification processes, we have begun notifying victims."

At this point, it is unclear how many companies Russian hackers have hacked and what types of data they have accessed.

Microsoft identified the criminals as the group called Midnight Blizzard, which is believed to work for Russia's foreign intelligence service.

Other security companies refer to the gang as Apt29 or Cozy Bear.

“The threat actor reduced the likelihood of being discovered by launching these attacks from a distributed residential infrastructure. A technique that helped ensure they obfuscated their activity so they could continue to act over time,” reads the Microsoft blog .

Among the other hi-tech big names hit by the same criminals is Hewlett Packard Enterprise (Hpe), which revealed how its email system hosted by Microsoft was hacked by Midnight Blizzard.

The company said that, according to its investigation, hackers "accessed and exported data from a small percentage" of mailboxes since May 2023. The two attacks are not necessarily linked: "We don't have the details of the incident that Microsoft experienced and disclosed last week, so we are not able to connect the two events" the words of HPE spokesperson, Adam R. Bauer, on the Techcrunch site.
