Two men aged 23 and 33, suspected of participating in cigarette trafficking, were arrested on Saturday January 27 in Saint-Priest, in the east of the Lyon metropolis.
Around 11:20 p.m., several police officers on patrol in the town noticed the suspicious behavior of the two men who were transferring boxes between several vehicles in a nervous manner.
Taken aback by this move at this late hour, the police decided to check the two suspects.
They quickly established that these boxes contained cartons of cigarettes.
Vehicles seized
The search of the three vehicles revealed 5,000 packets of cigarettes and €3,800 in cash.
Placed in police custody, the two men admitted the facts.
The three vehicles were seized and confiscated.
The two men will also be presented to the Lyon public prosecutor's office this Monday with a view to an immediate appearance for "fraudulent possession of highly taxed products", indicates the Rhône departmental public security directorate.
