Prosecco and sustainability.

The first "sustainability report" on the wine production of the Treviso hills arrives from the Conegliano-Valdobbiadene DOCG Consortium.

A document on which an agreement signed with all the local administrations of the territory affected by the study is based.

It was presented today in Valdobbiadene (Treviso) by the president of the Consortium for the protection of Prosecco Conegliano Valdobbiadene Superiore Docg, Elvira Bortolomiol.

Present were, among others, the president of the Veneto Region, Luca Zaia, and the senator Luca De Carlo.

The illustration of the document, edited by the Interdepartmental Center for research in viticulture and oenology (Cirve), coordinated by the professor of the University of Padua Eugenio Pomarici, was followed by a round table entitled "Regenerating the present, rethinking the future" to which Ermete Realacci, president of the Symbola Foundation, Don Andrea Forest, episcopal delegate for social pastoral care and care of creation, Fabio Piccoli, managing director of the Wine Meridian publishing house, and Stefano Soldan, president of Intesa, gave their contributions. area program (Ipa) Terre Alte Marca Trevigiana.

"It is a first dialogue that we have implemented through the Consortium for the protection of the DOCG and with the association for the UNESCO heritage of the Conegliano Valdobbiadene hills - highlighted the president of the Consortium, Elvira Bortolomiol - It represents a change of mentality, a new way of organizing the territory and being able to make it move towards the future with new values. The pact moves on some important macro-themes of environmental sustainability, with projects implemented by our Green Academy regarding water, carbon emissions, reorganization of the territory with local police rules that help healthiness for the benefit of citizens and with respect to which three important moments are foreseen in 2024".

Pomarici, for his part, highlighted the fact that "an important part of the report documents the commitments towards people which mean training programs and social inclusion of workers, community animation and also social solidarity actions. Then there is a window into the future - he added - in which the activities to be scheduled later are specified and which aim for even more ambitious results".

For Realacci, today was "a particularly interesting opportunity to give strength to the world of wine because a sustainable product is perceived by citizens first and foremost as a product that deserves more. What was presented today is not a destination - he added - but a stage of the product. This is in fact the largest area in Italy, but I believe also in Europe, without glyphosate - he concluded - and there is experimentation on green chemistry, on water saving and on renewable sources".
