Kaufering - Two Red Hocks performed particularly well in Chemnitz: Moritz Leonhardt had the bat in play for all five Kauferinger goals and the Floor Fighters were unable to get past goalkeeper Moritz Ballweg for long stretches.
The bottom line is that it was above all the team performance of the squad, which was still severely decimated, that enabled the Bundesliga Lechfloorballers to win 5-3 away.
Half of the eight goals came in the last three minutes.
And the 1:4, which Moritz Leonhardt pushed into an empty box after Chemnitz had taken out their goalkeeper in favor of another field player, melted away again.
The home side's final offensive was successful twice more: Robert Montell (58th), Väinö-Oskari Paavilainen (60th) shortened the score, but as was the case throughout the entire season, the Kauferinger defense team was also excellent in the home straight.
“We were extremely effective defensively today,” said defender Johannes Föhr, who had to play as an attacker.
Because his personnel-stricken Red Hocks were once again only able to muster an absolute minimum of two goalkeepers and ten field players.
“It was always in our minds that no one should get hurt,” says Föhr.
The list of failures did not stop at the coaching team either - goalkeeper coach Shoeui Yiu and the injured captain Marco Keß stepped in for head coach Daniel Nustedt and co Christoph Huber.
“We worked hard against the ball and Moritz did a great job in goal,” says Föhr, pointing out that his team didn’t concede a single goal in five-on-five games.
After a 2-0 lead, Leonhardt had successfully finished from half-distance in the first third (5th, 18th), the lead seemed to briefly shake in the second half when Tomas Novotny (32nd) received the only Kauferinger penalty of the day used for connection.
But Benedikt Föhr followed up again less than three minutes later (35th) when he found the gap in front of the Floor Fighters' goal after a corner.
“That was the sticking point for me,” says his brother Johannes happily.
“The two-goal gap gave us security.”
Immediately before the final siren, Leonhardt once again made a long break over the deserted goal line - 5:3 from Kaufering's perspective.
Over, over, away win.
Of course, even after this successful catch-up game, the last place in the table can no longer be left and going into the playdowns is unavoidable.
The Red Hocks have already fully switched to relegation battle.
They proved how to survive this against Chemnitz.
The national team around Tino von Pritzbuer, a Landsberger with a long history in Kaufering and currently in the service of UHC Waldkirch-St., begins on Wednesday.
Gallen in Switzerland, the World Cup qualification.
The Bundesliga is currently resting, the Red Hocks will continue on February 10th at home against Dresden and the next day away in Wernigerode.
