Shortage of doctors: this health center in Haute-Vienne operates with... retired general practitioners

2024-01-29T07:39:55.375Z

Highlights: Three new doctors have been hired to work in the town of Haute-Vienne. The town has a population of 5,717. The new doctors will work in a new hospital. The hospital will have a capacity of 3,000 people. It will be the first of its kind in the world. It is located on the banks of the Rhône River. It was built in the 19th century. The city is named after a town in France, where the first doctors worked.

Three returning practitioners work one day a week in the branches of the new health center in the Portes de Vass area.

Calling on retirees to launch a health center, by bringing together the existing medical center in Eymoutiers and three branches, is the daring gamble of Portes de Vassivière.

The community of municipalities has just inaugurated its new healthcare offer in this area located in Haute-Vienne.

A sector which is not without charm.

Eymoutiers, the flagship town, has 153 businesses, including 53 small businesses.

The town center is attractive, the cultural offerings are abundant and Lake Vassivière, called “Little Canada”, leaves no nature lover indifferent.

“We are not a dormitory town,” assures Hanissa Hocini, general director of Portes de Vassivière services.

But the observation is there.

About ten years ago, there were ten general practitioners working in our twelve municipalities.

Today, there are only three left for 5,717 inhabitants.

“One in two residents is over 60 years old and we must revitalize our territory where the supply of care no longer covers the demand,” insists Hanissa Hocini.
