Large parts of Germany were just braving freezing rain and snowfall.
However, stormy winds and a significant change in temperature are now on the horizon.
Update from January 23rd, 6:25 a.m.:
The weather in Germany will initially remain stormy in many places on Tuesday.
The German Weather Service warned of “hurricane-like gusts on the Brocken”.
In addition, “some severe squalls are to be expected in the low mountain ranges and Alps as well as on the coasts”.
Isolated strong thunderstorms may occur in the south.
Some snow falls in the Alps above 1000 meters, and there may be slippery conditions in southern Germany, even at higher altitudes above 600 meters, according to the DWD.
Update from January 22nd, 7:00 p.m.:
Official weather warnings continue to apply for almost all of Germany.
As data from the DWD shows, there are widespread storms and gusts of wind, some of which are severe.
There are hurricane-like gusts of up to 110 km/h on the Brocken.
The DWD is reporting heavy rain locally, and there is a warning of thaw weather in the center and west, especially for parts of North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate and Hesse.
In southern Bavaria there may be light snowfall and slippery conditions from an altitude of 800 meters next night.

Weather: Storm warning issued for large parts of Germany
Update from January 22nd, 11:30 a.m.:

There is a storm warning with extreme hurricane gusts in large parts of the country, as the DWD informs.
The following federal states are particularly affected:
Schleswig-Holstein
Lower Saxony
Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, especially the coastal regions
North Rhine-Westphalia
Hesse
Thuringia
Saxony-Anhalt, especially in the south
Saxony
Rhineland-Palatinate
Saarland
While the snow is melting in most regions due to the plus temperatures, the danger of freezing rain is still increasing in eastern Bavaria and the Ore Mountains over the course of Monday.
Caution is particularly important in road traffic.

There is a risk of storms, Haas makes it clear again.
The first low brought wind speeds of up to 100 km/h to coastal areas in the early hours of Monday morning;
In the Upper Harz, sometimes even up to 160 km/h.
There is also expected to be rain and while it will become friendlier in the north over the course of the day and temperatures are expected to be over ten degrees plus, it will remain colder in the south.
Here the plus temperatures remain in the single digits and in the morning there is still a risk of black ice if it rains.
The German Weather Service (DWD) also warns of the squalls.

A new week brings a series of storms and mild temperatures – but winter is not over yet
First report from January 19th:
Munich - The winter chaos that has kept the south of Germany under control in the last few days is only slowly disappearing.
It's getting really cold again on the third weekend in January.
There is a risk of record-breaking temperatures of up to minus 30 degrees, especially in the Alpine region.
On Monday (January 22nd) there are signs of a brief turnaround in the weather - with some strong gusts of wind.
Weather forecast for Germany: The weekend will be frosty again
“Icing rain and heavy snowfalls, all of that is now yesterday’s news,” reports meteorologist Dominik Jung on wetter.net.
According to the weather expert, cold winter weather can still be expected for a few days, with daily temperatures just above zero degrees.
Jung expects severe frost at night on the weekend, with temperatures sometimes falling between minus 15 and minus 20 degrees.
According to the German Weather Service (DWD), there are already strong to stormy gusts on the coast on Friday (January 19th), and even squalls on the North Sea.
In areas of central and southern Germany, there is light permafrost away from urban centers and river basins and generally in mountainous areas.
On Saturday night, the DWD also predicts temperatures of up to minus 15 degrees in areas with clear conditions and snow.
The weather forecast from Monday promises stormy winds and mild temperatures
There will be brisk winds throughout the weekend, especially in the north.
On Monday (January 22nd) there will be widespread gusts of 70 to 80 and up to 90 km/h in northwest Germany.
The DWD also forecasts “severe squalls in the mountains and on the sea” for Monday, and “temporary hurricane-like gusts are possible” in the North Sea.
After a calmer Tuesday, according to Jung, the wind will blow particularly strongly on Wednesday night (January 24th).

In the north the wind can blow at speeds of 100 km/h, and in the low mountain ranges even up to 120 km/h.
It was only at the beginning of January that a storm devastated northwestern Europe.
With the stormy winds, milder air masses are also coming to Germany.
According to the DWD, with the mild temperatures and expected rainfall, a thaw is setting in, with temperatures at the beginning of the week between 4 degrees in the southeast and up to 12 degrees along the Rhine and in the northwest.
Weather trend for the end of the month: Winter temperatures are coming back
Anyone who believes, given the mild temperatures, that spring has already arrived in Germany will still have to be patient.
After the upcoming quite warm days, the temperatures are likely to fall again towards the end of the month, at least trend forecasts indicate.
“The cold air is coming back under the influence of high pressure,” says Jung about the further weather trend.
However, new snow is unlikely to be expected; in fact, according to Jung and the DWD forecast, the end of the month should be “largely free of precipitation”.
