A highly charged discussion on the impeachment of a member of the Hadash party, MK Ofer Kasif, is being held today (Monday) in the Knesset committee.
The impeachment process started after Shezif signed a petition supporting the lawsuit against Israel in The Hague, and in its petition 86 Knesset members signed in favor of his impeachment.
Chairman of the Knesset Committee Ofir Katz: I hope we put an end to the freedom to support terrorism against the State of Israel and its soldiers in the name of freedom of speech, it would be a great privilege to be chairman of a coalition and chairman of a committee that mobilizes a majority to impeach the lowest person the Israeli Knesset has ever known.

During the hearing, the claims for his impeachment, legal opinions and also Kasif's position will be heard.
In order to continue the impeachment process, 13 Knesset members on the committee need to vote in favor of it.
After that, 90 members of the Knesset will be required to vote in favor of Kassif's impeachment in the Knesset plenum for the impeachment to take place.
Kassif's tenure in the Knesset is riddled with scandals.
Only recently, an indictment was filed against him for attacking a policeman during a demonstration in the south of Mount Hebron, in the past he called MK Almog Cohen, from the Otzma Yehudit party, a 'stinking Nazi'. He also compared government plans to the Holocaust, another MK said "Go Thanos One more," called MK Merav Ben Ari "chicken" and more.

Among the 86 signatories in favor of the impeachment of MK Ofer Kasif are MKs from all parties, with the exception of the Arab parties, members of the Ethics Committee and the Speaker of the Knesset. Gantz, Eisenkot, Lapid and other members of the Knesset from the Yesh Atid party also decided not to sign the impeachment petition.
According to Chapter 41 of the Law of the Knesset, it is established that a request to terminate the membership of a member of the Knesset must be submitted to the Speaker of the Knesset accompanied by the signatures of at least 70 members of the Knesset, of which at least ten are members of the opposition.
