For 50 years, Barbara has been the “First Lady” alongside former mayor Klaus Stallmeister of Hallbergmoos.

Now the couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.

Hallbergmoos

- The fact that the former mayor (76) appreciates his Bärbel (73) not only as a caring wife, mother of two and grandma of six becomes clear right at the beginning of the white sausage breakfast in the family circle: "A lot of people voted for me because of Bärbel," says the full-blooded retired politician.

It was his wife who had his back, who was approachable and always approachable, and who people poured out their hearts to.

The concerns and problems quickly reached the town hall.

Mayor Josef Niedermair could only confirm this: “Bärbel is the epitome of the First Lady, a woman with a big heart and mind.”

How did the couple find each other?

“At volleyball,” remembers Klaus Stallmeister.

The two Munich natives, who lived in the Harlaching district at the time, were active players and ran into each other quite by chance while training in the gymnastics association hall.

The young woman spontaneously accepted his invitation to the Dance in May on April 30, 1967 in the parish hall of St. Peter.

From then on we went through life together.

The couple married civilly and in church on January 25, 1974: the groom, as the photo from that time shows, with a daring hairstyle and tinted horn-rimmed glasses.

“Our granddaughter Franziska made the bridal bouquet for our wedding day.” Bärbel Stallmeister still treasures the pot in which the bridesmaid kept it to this day.

The electrical engineer, who worked as a civilian for the Bundeswehr and later as a project manager for NATO, and the bookseller started a family.

They moved to Hallbergmoos with their son Florian and daughter Katrin in 1980 because housing in Munich was becoming too expensive.

When a problem arose in the kindergarten and the stable master spoke eloquently, the mayor at the time, Ludwig Gruber, became aware of him.

The rest is known: Stallmeister went into local politics and was mayor of the municipality from 1996 to 2014.

In their private lives, the Stallmeisters travel a lot with their Munich friends, former bandmates and volleyball players.

In November 2023, the powerful-voiced stable master said goodbye to the stage.

Many cycling tours with friends and family vacations took the couple through Germany, to Austria, South Tyrol, Italy, Denmark and the USA.

“Our Munich circle of friends is very important to us.

They have accompanied us closely over the years and have been there for us in difficult situations,” says Bärbel Stallmeister.

After the end of their political careers, the couple withdrew from the limelight.

“With the pension, we also reduced volunteer positions,” said the former mayor.

The home in Goldach has now been exchanged for a beautiful roof terrace apartment in the new Jägerfeld-West development area.

Barbara Stallmeister continues to be involved with the food bank.

Klaus Stallmeister still does the office for the “Hallbergmoos Helps” foundation, which he founded in 2008.

This leaves a lot more time for the family and the lively grandchildren, as they both happily say.
