The twin sisters Amy and Ano were separated immediately after birth.
They learn of their fate by chance.
Tbilisi - It's an incredible story: the two of them knew nothing about each other for 19 years.
Then a TikTok video brought twins Amy Khvitia and Ano Sartania back together.
Twins are separated as babies - after 19 years they find each other again
Amy posted a video of herself on TikTok.
A friend of Ano's was amused that a girl looked so much like her and passed it on to her.
That was in November 2021. A lot has happened since then.
After a first meeting, the twins tried to find out more about their past.
“It was like looking in a mirror,” Amy tells the British TV station
BBC
: “The same face, the same voice.
I am her and she is me.” Amy and Ano look alike, have the same taste in music, love to dance and also suffer from the same bone disease (dysplasia).
However, their birth certificates did not match and were several weeks apart.

Twins separated immediately after birth and sold
The identical twins were born in a hospital in Kirtskhi, western Georgia.
After birth they grew up separately in different families.
According to a BBC
documentary , the two were
taken away from their mother and sold illegally.
They learned from their families that they were adopted several weeks apart in 2002.
The girls' "new" mothers had "picked up" the babies from the hospital in exchange for a sum of money.
Accordingly, none of the women knew that they were twins.
The adoptive families also believed the procedure was legal.

Twins Amy and Ano find their birth mother
The twin sisters tracked down their birth mother in a Facebook group for suspected illegally adopted people.
At a first meeting in Leipzig, she told her daughters that she had fallen into a coma after her birth.
When she woke up, she was told by hospital staff that her twins had died.
The journalist Tamuna Museridze founded the Facebook group called Vedzeb (in German: I am looking) in 2021 to search for her biological mother herself.
Hundreds of families have now been reunited, while many questions remain unanswered about Museridze's past.
The journalist suspects that there was an illegal adoption market in Georgia from the early 1950s until 2005.
“The scale is unimaginable, up to 100,000 babies were stolen.
It was systemic,” Museridze told the
BBC
.
According to the documentation, some children were also sold abroad - to Canada, Russia, Cyprus or the USA.
