The train drivers' strike at the GDL has only just ended, and passengers are facing the next challenge: the Verdi union is calling for warning strikes on public transport next Friday.
Also in the southwest.
Stuttgart - Commuters in the southwest have to be prepared for significant restrictions on Friday.
The Verdi union has called for a warning strike in local public transport on this day.
Stuttgart, Karlsruhe, Heilbronn, Freiburg, Baden-Baden, Esslingen and Konstanz are affected by the all-day industrial action, as Verdi announced in Stuttgart on Monday.
Strike meetings usually take place on site.
In the seven cities, the vehicles largely remain in the depot: Verdi expected that no buses or trains would run.
It was initially not known whether individual lines of the municipal transport companies on strike would be served or whether there would be replacement timetables.
But one thing is certain: Hundreds of thousands of people in the country are likely to be affected by the warning strike.
Verdi is demanding better working conditions for 6,500 employees
Verdi is currently negotiating in parallel in all federal states except Bavaria about better working conditions for employees of local public transport companies.
There will also be warning strikes in other countries on Friday.
According to the union, the talks affect more than 130 municipal companies in cities and districts as well as a total of 90,000 employees - around 6,500 of them in Baden-Württemberg.
Negotiations are taking place in all federal states at the same time.
In terms of content, however, there are different demands.
In the southwest, Verdi wants, among other things, to ensure that bus and train drivers can have their working hours fully credited in the event of delays.
Verdi also demands a shift allowance for the driving service.
This does not yet exist - although employees in this area start or end their work at different and stressful times.
Verdi negotiator Jan Bleckert announced on Monday: “The dramatic staff shortage is already leading to constant cancellations and delays and is putting a massive strain on the drivers.”
However, the desired strengthening of local transport will only succeed if working conditions are significantly improved.
Employers recently rejected Verdi’s demands
The Baden-Württemberg Municipal Employers' Association (KAV) sits at the negotiating table for local transport companies.
The association rejected Verdi's request at the beginning of December.
A reduction in working hours would worsen the staff shortage, it was said.
According to Verdi, the KAV did not submit an offer during the first round of negotiations in the southwest on Monday.
Verdi regional director Martin Gross had already warned commuters to go on warning strikes at the beginning of the year.
He had assumed a tough collective bargaining round.
The second and third rounds of negotiations in the southwest are scheduled for early February and early March.
Passengers have recently been repeatedly affected by strikes: the strike by the locomotive drivers' union GDL at Deutsche Bahn was only ended early on Monday morning.
In the previous days there was only a greatly reduced offer in the country on long-distance and regional transport as well as on the S-Bahn.
There should be no further strikes in this collective bargaining dispute up to and including March 3rd.
