Wörth is now officially a Fairtrade community and wants to be a role model for society.

Wörth – In an imaginative celebration in the Hörlkofen town hall on Friday evening, Wörth was officially named a Fairtrade community.

So far, only the city of Erding and the district itself have received this rating in the Erding district.

Since the honorary ambassador Manfred Holz was unable to travel from Wuppertal due to the rail strike, Fairtrade specialist Carina Bischke presented the certificate and gave the laudatory speech.

Deputy Mayor Ulla Dieckmann, who initiated the project with the local steering group, saw the spokesperson for the Erding steering group as a true “messenger of the heart” because Bischke had supported the Wörth application process with a lot of expertise from the start.

The laudator pointed out that Wörth was the 253rd municipality in Bavaria to be included in the group of Fairtrade towns.

There are more than 2,000 Fairtrade Towns in 36 countries worldwide.

“You have to admit that the series of title holders doesn’t read badly: London, Paris, Quito, San Francisco and now also Wörth,” said Bischke with a smile.

With its commitment to fair trade in various areas, the community takes on “responsibility for more social justice” and sustainable business.

“Especially in times of climate change, it is becoming increasingly clear: the fragile symbiosis of people, nature and the environment can only work in the long term if sustainability is brought into focus at all levels of life,” the speaker emphasized.

Fairtrade means better living and working conditions for the global south, but also for regional food producers.

The spokeswoman for the local steering group, Melanie Kollmannsberger, was pleased that “a small piece of fair happiness” could be found in the community of Wörth.

Mayor Thomas Gneißl (ÜPWG) deliberately spoke of a “milestone”.

Ultimately, it is a progressive process.

As a cosmopolitan municipality, Wörth set out to spread the ideas of the campaign into society and “of course also actively set an example”.

To receive the award, the municipality had to meet five criteria.

The first was a council decision to serve fair trade coffee and another product in the mayor's office and the use of fair trade goods at events.

The second criterion was the establishment of the steering group.

In addition to Dieckmann and Kollmannsberger, it includes Green Party councilor Petra Schletter, Christiane Siegner and Theresa Schadow.

Schletter and Kollmannsberger also look after the One World store in Wörth, which has been around for over 30 years.

The third point was to implement the idea in retail and gastronomy, which was ensured with the Hörlkofen Delta market, the Wörther village shop and its meeting place and the One World shop.

The fourth criterion provides for the commitment of public institutions.

The Walpertskirchen parish association with its Confirmation preparation, the Wifling gardening and beautification association, the Orterer school, the community library and the community holiday program were mentioned here as examples.

The fifth criterion includes reporting by the local media.

A film about the production of fair trade chocolate by Jutta Ulmer and Michael Wolfsteiner was also shown at the appointment ceremony.

The musical arrangement was carried out by the sisters Sabrina and Daniela Fischer with their guitar playing, who tailored the repertoire and announcements to the occasion.

Sandra Schumertl's buffet was based on Fairtrade recipes.

Some young people helped with the organization.

You could also buy products from the One World Shop.
