The strike at Deutsche Bahn has just ended, and there is already the next conflict.

This time on public transport.

Many cities in Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland are affected.

Berlin/Mainz - Commuters also have to be prepared for restrictions on local public transport in Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland on Thursday evening and Friday.

The Verdi union called for a warning strike on Monday.

In Rhineland-Palatinate, Verdi also called on employees of private bus companies to go on a warning strike at the same time.

“The planned strike measures are expected to affect large parts of the country, as both the municipal transport companies and the private bus companies in Rhineland-Palatinate will be on strike at the same time due to another collective bargaining dispute,” said the Verdi regional district of Rhineland-Palatinate-Saarland.

“This will affect all intercity traffic in the affected regions and communities, as well as commuter and school traffic.”

The strike will begin on Thursday at 8 p.m. and last until the end of the last shift on Friday, it said.

All companies and locations of the KRN-Kommunalverkehr Rhein-Nahe, the Mainzer Verkehrsgesellschaft, the Stadtwerke Pirmasens Verkehrs-GmbH, the Stadtwerke Kaiserslautern Verkehrs-AG and the Stadtwerke Trier are affected.

Numerous companies have also been called on a warning strike when it comes to buses, including all companies and locations of DB Regio Bus Mitte GmbH, DB Regio Bus Rhein-Mosel GmbH and Koblenzer Verkehrsbetriebe GmbH.

The Association of Employers' Associations in the Transport Industry of Rhineland-Palatinate regrets that no agreement has been reached so far, it announced on Monday.

The employers remained determined to end the conflict as quickly as possible, it said.

The central strike rally is scheduled to take place between 10:45 a.m. and 1 p.m. on the Theodor Heuss Bridge, which connects Wiesbaden and Mainz.

“4,000 participants from the federal states of Hesse, Saarland and Rhineland-Palatinate are expected here,” said the union.

The spokesperson is Verdi deputy boss Christine Behle.

“We have a dramatic shortage of workers in public transport and incredible pressure on employees.

In all tariff areas, buses and trains are canceled every day because there are not enough staff.

“Something must be done urgently to relieve the burden on employees,” said Behle in Berlin.

Passengers will once again face significant restrictions this Friday, especially in rush hour traffic.

All other federal states are also affected, except Bavaria.

It was only this Monday that the German Locomotive Drivers' Union (GDL) prematurely ended its multi-day strike at Deutsche Bahn.

A peace obligation now applies there until March 3rd.

However, Verdi labor disputes are still possible in local and regional transport.

The union wants to improve working conditions for employees.

According to Verdi, the core demands include a shortening of weekly working hours, an increase in vacation entitlement, additional relief days for shift and night work as well as the limitation of shared shifts and unpaid times in driving service.

In Saarland, in addition to working conditions, employees' wages and salaries are also negotiated.
