In order to treat rams in wild animals in Bitbata, they need to be examined under anesthesia - not an easy task when it comes to animals that reach a weight of tens or even hundreds of kilograms • How does it work and how is the treatment itself carried out? all the details

As part of the veterinary treatment required for the wild animals held by the Nature and Parks Authority for the purpose of breeding and rehabilitation in preparation for their return to the wild, the animals sometimes suffer from injuries and diseases.

As part of the ongoing veterinary care provided by the PA veterinarian Dr. Tomer Nisimian and by doctors and veterinarians working for the PA, it is sometimes necessary to perform examinations and eye treatments on the animals kept in the Bitbata Wildlife Sanctuary, a complex activity due to the fact that the animals are large wild animals that weigh tens or even hundreds of kilograms, which The same tests should be performed under anesthesia.

Two such cases took place in Chai Bar in recent months, when a white ram suffered an eye that was apparently injured in a fight in such a way that he destroyed his eyeball.

The remaining eye cavity and the injured tissues caused continued infection and secretions, so the animal was euthanized by Dr. Nisimian and Dr. Ronnie King was promoted. Later, Dr. Nisimian cleaned and sutured the cavity.

A few weeks after the procedure, it is evident that the eye cavity is completely closed and that the ram no longer suffers from the infection.

In another case that is still ongoing, Ramet Sahra suffers from discharge, bulging and enlargement of her right eye.

Rama was examined under anesthesia by Dr. King, and during the examination it was found that she suffers from uveitis (inflammation of the uvea) of unknown origin and suspected glaucoma. Blood tests taken from her did not indicate a general disease that could cause inflammation.

In order to save her eye, the Nature and Parks Authority consulted with an expert in animal ophthalmology, Dr. Lionel Sebag, and it was decided to give her another anesthesia in which Dr. King and Dr. Nebo Schwartz participated. During the anesthesia, Dr. Nisimian injected her with a long-acting steroid to give - the conjunctiva, so she was given local and systemic complementary treatment.

Dr. Nisimian noted that beyond the great importance of the sense of sight for wild animals, a problem like the one Rama suffers from is very problematic, since it is a painful problem that manifests itself in a lot of tears and the animal's discomfort. "I am happy that wild animals report problems that arise in animals.

We try in veterinary and therapeutic ways to treat the problems and improve the well-being of the animals.

I hope that the treatment will solve the problem and save the eye, and in case the issue is not successful - we will consider performing a surgical procedure.

The rama will be continuously checked by the wildlife team, and we hope for the best," he said.

His condition has improved.
