Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj was a guest of Caren Miosga on ARD on Sunday.
In addition to a lot of praise, there was also criticism.
Berlin - A week ago, Caren Miosga took over Anne Will's former broadcasting slot and had CDU chairman Friedrich Merz as a guest in her debut talk.
In the second edition, President Volodymyr Zelensky was her interlocutor in the middle of the Ukraine war.
The Ukrainian President thanked the Federal Republic for the ongoing help, but also hinted that a more consistent Russia policy in the past might have prevented the conflicts of the present.
According to Zelensky, in the worst case scenario this could culminate in a third world war.
Zelensky warns on Miosga on ARD: “Putin is not just a threat to Ukraine”
According to Zelensky, Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) has now clearly recognized the intentions and goals of Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin.
“He understood that Putin is not just a name, but a threat, and not just a threat to Ukraine,” Zelensky said on the ARD talk show.
“I think he senses that Russia will move closer to Germany if we don’t hold out.”
Zelensky continued to say that he could not say whether and when this would happen or which NATO state would be hit first.
“But it seems to me that the Chancellor understands this risk, and that is definitely the Third World War.” Scholz therefore understood the risks.
“Olaf felt that he was not just Federal Chancellor, but one of the leaders in today’s Europe,” affirmed the Ukrainian President.
“The weapons will hardly help you then”: Zelenskyj makes it clear at Miosga about war escalation
However, Zelensky once again regretted that Germany is not prepared to deliver Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine.
However, he did not hold Scholz responsible for this, but did not want to give any details or background to this assessment.
The decision of the Bundestag, the majority of which rejected the delivery, was a clear signal.
But he hopes for a new decision.
Zelensky also addressed Defense Minister Boris Pistorius's statement on ARD that Germany also had to think about its own defense capabilities.
“The weapons will hardly help you then.
This is a different war, these are different people, Russia is completely different.”
Zelenskyj on conscientious objectors from Ukraine: Don't force them back
Even though he would like to see them at home, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky does not want to use pressure to bring back the conscientious objectors who have fled abroad.
He therefore does not call on Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz to send these people back to Ukraine.
“I’m definitely not calling out to Olaf Scholz: bring them back quickly,” he said.
“We live in a democratic world.”

What Ukraine needs with regard to conscientious objectors is a “functioning law”.
This is currently in preparation.
Personally, he would like these people to return, if only for reasons of justice.
After Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine began almost two years ago, hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians fled abroad, many of them to Germany.
Among them are also men of military age.
Zelenskyj explains to Miosga: He would also talk to Trump
Zelensky did not want to comment specifically on a possible personnel change in the White House in Washington after the presidential elections in the fall.
“Life has many surprises,” he said of Americans’ upcoming decision between incumbent Joe Biden and, presumably, former President Donald Trump.
“I will talk to him,” he said about the prospect of Trump’s election success.
If Trump implements his formula that he can bring about peace within 24 hours, Zelensky said, then “I will be a very happy president.”
