Wessobrunn/Haid – There are one or two carnival events in Wessobrunn.
However, the tranquil monastery village is not one of the carnival strongholds in the region.
There is a contact point in the Haid district that is indispensable for many carnival enthusiasts.
At the “Annelies costume rental” the friends of the fifth season can dress, equip and costume themselves according to all the rules of the art.
Saskia Wagner has hundreds of all kinds of coverings in her huge collection of well over 100 square meters, which she took over from her mother Annelies and then gradually expanded.
“My mother received some carnival clothing as a gift from an acquaintance over 30 years ago and actually saw the whole thing as her own use so that the family didn’t always have to wear the same things during carnival,” Wagner remembers the beginning.
This relatively manageable inventory grew over the years, so that it became necessary to move from the basement of the home to the former threshing floor.
It's now literally bursting at the seams with a wide variety of costumes, but also hats, shoes and matching accessories.
“I have already moved a lot of things into the attic,” says Wagner, who was not without work even during the Corona period, when the crazy hustle and bustle came to a complete standstill for almost two years.
Regional theater and television productions used their extensive inventory of costumes and fashion from different centuries for their work.
A completely new business area opened up during the pandemic.
“Many people held private crime dinners and wanted the appropriate wardrobe,” reports Wagner, who has also outfitted entire wedding parties in medieval outfits.
For her large collection of elaborate dresses, robes, coats, jackets and trousers, all of which hang neatly sorted by size on the clothes rails, but also for the many additional items such as wigs, glasses or necklaces, she doesn't have to go to the computer like in other large warehouses look to find the right part.
“I have everything in my head where something is, but I can't change this system, otherwise it will be difficult,” smiles Wagner, who always has her inventory list ready to go and can quickly find the costume and accessories she wants for her customers.
“In recent years, “steam punk” costumes have been particularly popular.
“Everything with sequins is currently very trendy,” reports Wagner, who also likes to dress up and celebrate carnival.
Therefore, it is quite accommodating if a button is missing or a seam is unraveled when you return it.
“Sometimes things get wilder during carnival, but I always have customers who take good care of things,” explains Wagner, who sees costume rental as a hobby that she enjoys.
During the carnival season it has fixed opening times, which can be viewed on its homepage.
Otherwise, costumes can be rented at any time by appointment.
