Primary schools in the Rhône should have 118 fewer at the start of the 2024 school year, warns the Snudi-FO union.
A trend which follows the national and departmental demographic dynamics linked to the decline in the birth rate.
But which is accentuated by the choices of the rector, Olivier Dugrip.
In mid-January, the latter demanded
an academic “rebalancing”
between Ain and the Rhône, to justify the elimination of 60 professorships on this side of the Saône.
Or nearly 10% of the 650 job cuts requested in France by Gabriel Attal when he was still Minister of National Education.
“In this situation, the draft school map
(openings and closings of classes)
presented by the Rhône academy inspector provides for an unprecedented bloodletting for our department
,” says the Snudi-FO union in a press release.
In total, 279 classes in our department should therefore close and 161 open: the Rhône should therefore have 118 fewer classes at the start of the next school year
.
In detail, this project provides in particular for 36 closures in split classes in the priority education network in large sections, CP and CE1.
Campaigns particularly affected
“The rural sector is particularly mistreated
,” warns the union.
In this school map project, the Tarare district would lose eight classes and that of Belleville-en-Beaujolais four.
Facing the press in mid-January, the rector insisted on the supervision rates, whose academic and departmental averages are improving.
“There has been a reduction of nearly 12,000 students since 2013, but the creation of nearly 1,700 positions
,” argued Olivier Dugrip.

The union also points out the lack of progression of positions in social and medico-social establishments.
The same goes for Rased teachers (specialized help networks for students in difficulty).
“Faced with this unprecedented bloodletting, which will lead to an unprecedented deterioration in the working conditions of staff and the learning conditions of students,”
Snudi-FO is calling for a strike on Thursday.
Last week, 5,000 demonstrators gathered under the windows of the Ministry of National Education in Paris, demanding in particular the massive creation of places and positions in social and medico-social establishments.
