“It was time for orange wines to join our protected designation of origin (AOP), but this was the result of tough negotiations,” comments Gilles Erhart, president of the Association of Alsace Winegrowers (AVA).
This decision was taken by the union during a general meeting on January 18, 2024. A vote which ends a year of very long debates around the recognition of these orange-colored maceration wines.

“Within the Alsace vineyard, there have been a lot of questions about the taste of these wines.
We had to test a hundred, made by Alsatian winegrowers, to decide.
The conclusion is that, when these wines are well produced, they have a taste that is close to Alsace wines,” explains the president of the AVA.
