Almost a year after being arrested for the murder and dismemberment of the body of Georges Meichler, in Brasc (Aveyron), Philippe Schneider expressed his regrets before the judge of liberty and detention (JLD) of Montpellier on 26 January, as reported by
Midi Libre
.
Philippe Schneider was indicted and imprisoned, with two other people, in February 2023, in the investigation into the murder of a sixty-year-old, whose body was cut into pieces and cremated after death.
The public prosecutor requested a six-month extension of his incarceration, describing the acts committed as
“sordid crimes”
motivated by nefarious motives.
Body cut and boiled
According to current information, relayed by
Midi Libre
, Philippe Schneider went to Georges Meichler, whom he believed to be a drug dealer, with the intention of stealing marijuana.
After tying and gagged him, he searched his house, later discovering that the victim had died, suffocated by his gag.
The next day, Philippe Schneider returned to the scene and cut up the corpse, taking advantage of his experience as a former butcher and cook.
To quickly get rid of the remains, he would have boiled the body parts previously marinated in bleach on a field, adding vegetables and herbs
"to mask the smell"
, as he explained to the gendarmes and to the judge.
The final charred remains were then scattered in the earth, with what he claims was a Buddhist-inspired intention, to facilitate a possible reincarnation of the victim.
The investigating judge must now confront the different versions of the three accused to clarify the events.
The prosecutor highlights the challenge of the absence of a body, depending entirely on the statements of the accused, which have been false and evolving.
The judge's decision is expected on February 5.
