On Saturday, a homeless individual, aged 20, set fire to a trash can and burned several objects inside the Saint Amand church in Bordeaux Caudéran.
Known for begging around the religious building, named in homage to a Bordeaux bishop, the young man is suffering from
“psychological disorders”
and
“known for playing with fire”

the parish priest told Le

When he was surprised, Saturday around 3:20 p.m., the homeless man had just burned two chairs and set fire to the altar cloth on which masses were celebrated.
The firefighters, quickly alerted, extinguished the fire before it damaged the walls of the church, while the Bordeaux national police arrested the individual.
Parish complaint
Placed in police custody and interviewed by judicial police investigators, the individual admitted the facts.
He was referred to the Bordeaux public prosecutor's office on Monday.
Father Christophe de Lussy, on behalf of the parish, filed a complaint against him, explaining that it was
“the best way to help him not to start again”
.
The Saint Amand church in Bordeaux-Caudéran remains open during usual hours.
