A man from Corrientes who returned from Paraguay with almost
53 kilos of cocaine of the highest purity
was detained at the “San Roque González de Santa Cruz” international bridge by Customs agents.
The peculiarity is that the 50 “bricks” of the drugs that were seized were identified with the emblems of Boca Juniors and Ferrari.
The operation began minutes after 9 p.m. on Sunday when a
Renault Duster Oroch
truck arrived at one of the entry lanes into the country through the Encarnación-Posadas pass.
Only a 51-year-old man, from Curuzú Cuatiá, province of Corrientes, was traveling in the pick-up.
The driver seemed nervous when the Customs agents asked him about the reason for his trip to Paraguay and the time he spent in the neighboring country.
The hesitant responses and the
almost total absence of luggage
only raised suspicions, which is why the vehicle was sent to a dock for stricter control.
The agents did not notice any recent repairs on the truck, but since the man was still upset, they decided to do one last check: the vehicle was taken to the sector where a
scanner truck
records cargo transportation entering the country.
This is how they detected various packages in the cargo box area of the vehicle.
The drugs had been
entered through the hole in the rear lights
and stored in separate compartments located on the fenders.
The Renault Duster Oroch was filled with cocaine with the Boca and Ferrari shields
In the vehicle there were a total of 50 compact “bricks” of cocaine that weighed
52,735 kilos
, with a market value of more than
700,000,000 pesos
.
According to reports, this is the first time that security forces in our country have detected a shipment of cocaine that is identified with the emblems of the Boca Juniors club and the Ferrari automobile company.
When investigating the driver's background, it was established that he crossed into Encarnación, Paraguay, on Friday.
And that he had previously made the same trip, so it is not ruled out that on previous occasions he has also brought in shipments of drugs but not as voluminous as the one this Sunday.
The accused has no criminal record, and at some point he dedicated himself to commerce, an activity he left before the start of the coronavirus pandemic.
He currently does not register any blank activity, it emerged.
His current employment situation would prevent him from justifying the acquisition of the van in which he carried the drugs.
That vehicle was registered in his name in October of last year.
It is the first time they have detected bricks of cocaine with this label.
In addition to recording several departures to Paraguay through the Posadas-Encarnación bridge, the detainee also records a few trips abroad through Paso de los Libres but with other vehicles.
The experts who analyzed the shipment believe that the drug was destined for our country and due to its degree of purity and identification,
it could belong to the Zetas Clan
, with connections in Peru.
The driver of the truck was detained in a Gendarmerie squad, in Posadas, and this week he will be investigated by federal judge María Victoria Skanata, who is in charge of the case.
