But now: The municipality of Bad Kohlgrub is bringing Bavarian greats to the Kursaal in 2024.

Advance sales are going “promisingly”.

Bad Kohlgrub – That would be something.

This or that would suit Bad Kohlgrub.

At least that's what Mayor Franz Degele (Free Voters) sometimes thinks when he sees an artist on television or hears them on the radio.

He always sends his suggestions to Lars Leidl.

“The community is making a wish list,” says the project manager for culture and education and laughs.

He then takes care of everything else.

About signing the desired candidate or candidates – and thus bringing them onto the Kursaal stage.

“He gets involved,” praises the town hall boss.

His commitment is bearing fruit.

After tastings last year, the program is now ready for 2024 - with BK Open Air and also exquisite Bavarian cultural delicacies.

This year, on the banners at the town entrances, road users are laughing at cabaret artists and musicians or both in one, like songwriter Roland Hefter or Stephan Zinner – once Söder's double on the Nockherberg.

Just two of the highlights that the audience can expect this year (see info box).

Leidl is “a little proud” of the program.

Degele is also more than satisfied.

2024 will be “top-class.”

In addition to the Ammergau Alps Classic Days, the mayor has long been striving to create more cultural highlights.

Is of community value to him.

The first attempt was in 2017/2018.

Degele admits that it was not successful for structural reasons.

In 2019 we came into contact with Izabella and Florian Spiegelberger.

The landlords of the Altenauer Dorfwirt at the time wanted to get started with the “Comedy in the Kursaal” concept.

“The conversations with them were great,” remembers the town hall boss.

The calendar for 2020 was set, but Corona pulled the plug.

In addition, the Spiegelbergers reoriented themselves professionally.

It wasn't until two years later that Kohlgruber's cultural business picked up speed again and planning for 2023 began.

However, with only half a year’s lead time.

“It’s difficult,” emphasizes Degele.

“You have to be there at least a year in advance.” Luckily, the community – which acts as organizer – was able to get Wolfgang Krebs and Christian Springer on board.

With Leidl, the municipality has brought in a specialist who recruits the artists and negotiates the contracts.

Getting your foot in the door with agencies often requires persistence.

Especially when it comes to booking top-tier cabaret artists.

“You have to stick with it,” emphasizes the event manager.

That's why he's already putting out feelers for 2025.

He has already caught Eva Karl Faltermeier, a well-known cabaret artist from Upper Palatinate.

The plan is to host around six to eight events per year.

With a cultural mix.

“We are testing what works best – and what doesn’t,” says Degele.

With Roland Hefter, Leidl and the community seem to have hit the jackpot.

“Advance sales are going like crazy,” says Leidl.

But the first two further dates are also going “promisingly”.

The mayor believes that Bad Kohlgrub's location plays a role in demand.

It is ideal because visitors come from three catchment areas - from Murnau, Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Schongau.

Well-known artists plus a suitable location – good conditions to fill the 350 to a maximum of 400 seats in the Kursaal.
