Derblecken, which enjoys almost cult status in Murnau at the beginning of Lent, will not take place in 2024 either.

The reason: Griesbräu is unable to offer a suitable appointment.

The Derblecker team initially wanted to throw in the towel, but have now decided to make another attempt in 2025.

Murnau

– You are missing something.

Quite terrible, actually.

Kurt Schweda does it, as does Ursula Ohliger.

Petra Albrecht, Hans-Jürgen Steib and Adi Sam feel very similar.

The five who formed the team that pulled the Murnauer Großkopferten through the cocoa from 2001 to 2019 without interruption in the traditional Griesbräu restaurant in Murnau at the beginning of Lent are still on the sidelines.

From 2020 to 2022, the corona pandemic prevented derblecken.

Last year, the Griesbräu gave time reasons why the event, which regularly mobilized and made more than 200 spectators laugh, could not take place.

Almost a year ago, Schweda accepted the rejection calmly in an interview with the Murnauer Tagblatt.

“So we increase the tension for next time,” said Schweda.

There may not be a next time, because Derblecken is not on Griesbräu's calendar in 2024 either.

“We couldn’t find a day that was right,” says Griesbräu landlady Christina Opitz.

“I regret that.” She cites the lack of staff in the catering industry as the main reason.

“The situation is difficult.”

Schweda and Ohliger had already learned in November 2023 during a conversation with Griesbräu managing director Michael Gilg and Opitz that the traditional event would again fall victim to adverse circumstances.

In a meeting scheduled a few days later with Albrecht, Steib and Sam, it was decided to accept the new forced break with a heavy heart and to draw the consequences.

“The derblecken will no longer exist,” explained Schweda in a telephone conversation with this newspaper a week ago.

After he had slept over the decision for a few days, there was a slight change in mood.

“If we find a date together with Griesbräu, we will be ready for 2025.” Opitz is also still showing interest.

“I never say never.” Derblecken is a traditional event, “and traditions are worth preserving.”

Other economy not an issue

In the opinion of Ohliger and Schweda, the Griesbräu must remain the home of Derblecken under all circumstances.

“Another economy is out of the question for us.

No one has this flair and this atmosphere.” And strong beer in Murnau is only brewed there.

It would have been entirely possible to create a program from scratch.

“There are enough topics,” says Ohliger.

And you are well versed in writing the texts.

“Everything is done in teamwork.”

Ohliger speaks of “a lot of heart and soul” that goes into her and her colleagues.

“We are missing something, and I think the audience is too.” She keeps hearing the wish from citizens that it is time for the Derblecker corrective to take effect, “before the politicians grow into the sky.”

However, it does not close its eyes to the problems that have arisen in recent years.

Ohliger makes it clear: The Derblecker team is plagued by several construction sites that need to be addressed.

The two musicians Florian Möckl and Georg Streitel, members of the Koitaboch-Musi and loyal companions for many years, have ended their collaboration due to time constraints.

“There were always numerous rehearsals before the performances, which became too much for both of them,” says Ohliger.

And during the years of break, the protagonists had a lot of time to think about their actions.

The cardinal question they asked themselves: “Is our format still up to date?” Doubts arose.

They fear that what they say or don't say will be taken over by political trends or that they will strike the wrong tone.

“Everyone is always looking for a fly in the ointment, but we just want to entertain,” says Schweda.

She sums up what Ohliger wants with a quip.

“People shouldn’t take everything so seriously, but rather take the (strong) beer seriously.”
