The Dominik-Brunner-Realschule in Poing was honored for two projects.

Poing - It was an inconspicuous appointment that took place on January 19, 2024 in a classroom at the Dominik-Brunner-Realschule.

There: a few students, two members of the parents' council, a few teachers and Michael Konz, acting head of the secondary school.

But Cordula Maiwald, employee of the ministerial representative for secondary schools in Upper Bavaria East, Markus Hösl-Liebig, had with her what actually characterized the meeting as “important”: a certificate for “particular extra-curricular achievements in the 2022/2023 school year”.

Dominik-Brunner-Realschule receives certificate for two projects: Award

It was from Prof. Dr.

Michael Piazolo, Bavarian State Minister for Education and Culture, signed it, but this did not diminish the significance of the award for the honored students and teachers.

There were two projects that Cordula Maiwald presented: firstly, the “simulation game” for designing the activity band and Bergfeldplatz in Lerchenwinkel and secondly “kultursinn”, in which twelve 9th and 10th grade students traveled to Cairo.

There they lived in a garbage town in the Egyptian metropolis, helped the children with their daily work and lived directly with their families in poor conditions.

The trip was financed by parents and donations and will be repeated this year.

The aim of the “local political simulation game” was the participation of young people as one of the core elements of youth work in the municipality's youth concept.

Young people should be involved in decisions that affect them, thereby enabling a say and the implementation of young people's ideas in the community.

During the course of the project “Design of the green strip at Lerchenwinkel”, in which Mayor Thomas Stark and some local councilors took part, the wishes became more concrete: zebra crossing from the primary school to the later high school, meadow with sufficient seating, football field, fitness equipment, covered soundproof hill with a quiet zone, secured basketball field and an internet café on Bergfeldplatz.

All of this was implemented by a planner and his designs were unanimously approved by the building and environmental committee.
