Highlights: Further dispute over the diesel driving ban in Munich: German environmental aid is suing for stricter rules. EU limit of 40 micrograms of nitrogen oxide per cubic meter of air continues to be exceeded at Landshuter Allee. The second stage of the concept for diesel driving bans must be implemented immediately. This means that diesel engines with Euronorm 5 will no longer be allowed to travel on or within the Middle Ring. The court date is March 14th. German Environmental Aid continues to fight for stricter diesel driving bans in Munich.

An appointment with the Administrative Court should bring clarity.

Munich - The dispute over the diesel driving ban continues, and the city has to defend itself on two fronts.

While state parliament member Robert Brannekämper (CSU) is also taking legal action against the existing driving ban for all diesel engines of the Euro 4 standard or lower, German Environmental Aid (DUH) is continuing to sue for the rules to be tightened.

Nitrogen oxide in Munich: According to the State Office for the Environment, the levels on Landshuter Allee are too high

As reported, the EU limit of 40 micrograms of nitrogen oxide per cubic meter of air continues to be exceeded at Landshuter Allee.

According to figures from the Bavarian State Office for the Environment, the annual average was 45 micrograms (previous year: 49).

“It happened as we predicted: the exposure stagnated at 45 micrograms,” says Robin Kulpa from the DUH.

“This strengthens our argument in the proceedings at the Bavarian Administrative Court - the adapted air pollution control plan is not able to ensure compliance with the limit value as quickly as possible.”

Further steps are necessary.

The second stage of the concept for diesel driving bans must be implemented immediately.

This means that diesel engines with Euronorm 5 will no longer be allowed to travel on or within the Middle Ring.

The court date is March 14th.

Diesel driving ban in Munich: The city decided against a further stage - because of better air quality

As reported, the city initially established a multi-stage concept, which in a first step excludes Euro 4 diesel from the low emission zone.

The second stage should have applied from October.

Since the air quality had improved in the meantime, the city council decided not to tighten the regulations by a large majority.
