The basketball court at the elementary school in Grafing is 30 years old.
A renovation is now being considered - costs could amount to 420,000 euros.
Grafing – The all-weather pitch (basketball court) is located in the middle between the newly constructed school yard areas of the primary school, the new construction of the running track at the stadium as well as the new construction of the children's center and a top artificial turf pitch.
“After more than 30 years of existence, this has reached the end of its lifespan,” is the conclusion from Grafing’s city administration.
For a complete restoration measure, you would have to expect around 420,000 euros for planning and construction, according to the city administration.

The feasibility of a cost-saving design for around 370,000 euros can only be achieved if the entire existing plastic covering has been peeled off and it then turns out that the substructure, the asphalt layer, cannot be replaced, explained Yvonne Magdon, team leader in the property office.
The Grafinger city councilors were extremely shocked at the amount of costs.
There was even talk of excessive standards and “gilding”.
A suggestion from FWG city councilor Christian Einhellig, who suggested bringing part of the costs back into the city treasury through sponsorship and perimeter advertising, was not taken into account.
His CSU colleague Josef Pollinger warned against hoping to only be able to partially repair the asphalt surface, as “no company will take over the guarantee anymore”.
City councilor Elli Huber (CSU) made it clear that the city would have to expect less income in the coming years.
The question arose here as to whether the measure could be postponed again.
But the city administration took up the measure not only because the all-weather pitch needed to be renewed after three decades, but because this versatile pitch was also included in the concept of the new children's center as an outdoor play area.
Last but not least, the childcare offering in primary schools is being expanded.
The all-weather pitch is planned to have an area of 44x22 meters and is therefore smaller than a standard all-weather pitch, which has an area of 44x28 metres.
Therefore, setting up an official basketball court measuring 28x15 meters is only possible with mobile basketball stands.
In order to enable the most versatile use possible, the following equipment is suggested: streetball, whereby the basketball hoop is available, as well as two goals for playing handball.
