The storm that has befallen the United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees is growing day by day.
Switzerland first, then the United States followed by Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Italy, Canada, Finland, Australia, Japan, Austria and Estonia have frozen their funding of UNRWA, around ten employees of which are accused of having participated in the terrorist attacks of October 7.
But not yet France, which constitutes the 6 largest contributor to this UN agency whose turnover of 1 billion dollars per year is 95% supplied by Western countries, particularly European ones.
Paris, which paid 60 million euros to UNRWA in 2023, describes a case of “
exceptional seriousness”.
But France, which had not planned a new payment for the first half of 2024, decided to wait for the result of the investigation before deciding
“when the time comes, what action to take”.
