An investigation into manslaughter was opened after a complaint from the family of a young man who died in the emergency room of Hyères (Var) at the beginning of October, we learned on Tuesday from the Toulon public prosecutor's office.
The investigations, entrusted to the Hyères police station, are
“in a phase of collecting technical data”
and
“we will then assess whether it is appropriate to refer the matter to an investigating judge”
as part of a judicial investigation, explained to AFP the public prosecutor of Toulon, Samuel Finielz.
Poor patient care?
Died on the night of September 30 to October 1 in the emergency room of Hyères hospital, Lucas, 25, was the victim of septic shock according to his family, who filed a complaint for manslaughter.
This complaint was revealed in December by Médiapart, which raised dysfunctions in the treatment of this patient.
Another young man, present that night in the emergency corridors, also denounced the situation to the press and the authorities.
Contacted by AFP, the Hyères hospital was unable to react on Tuesday to the opening of this investigation.
