Is this the first person? Almost 100,000-year-old human footprints | Israel today

Highlights: Researchers in Morocco discovered by chance the footprints of a group of people who apparently looked just like us - but lived more than 90,000 years ago. The 85 imprints were found in 2022 by researchers surveying rock formations on the coast near the northern tip of Morocco. Analysis of the footprints revealed that they were made by anatomically modern humans who lived in the area during the late Pleistocene era. The footprints were exposed in a part of the beach that is covered most of the time by ocean water, and is occasionally exposed thanks to low tide. However, threats of erosion cause difficulties in deciphering the lives of those ancient humans.

Researchers in Morocco discovered by chance the footprints of a group of people who apparently looked just like us - but lived more than 90,000 years ago. How were the prints kept in perfect condition on the beach?

How long has man existed?

This question is at the heart of a centuries-old debate between religion and science, and between science and itself.

Now, new evidence has been revealed for the existence of humans like us almost 100,000 years ago.

We helped Claude to tell about the findings.

A new study published last week in the journal Scientific Reports discusses an incredibly rare find: early modern human footprints, preserved for over 90,000 years.

The 85 imprints were found in 2022 by researchers surveying rock formations on the coast near the northern tip of Morocco, and date to the last ice age.

This is one of the longest and best preserved human footprints ever discovered.

The author of the study, Dr. Monsef Sedari, says that at first the researchers were skeptical about the footprints, but after examining them, they discovered that a diverse group, including children, teenagers and adults, crossed the sands a very long time ago.

The footprints were exposed in a part of the beach that is covered most of the time by ocean water, and is occasionally exposed thanks to low tide.

They survived thanks to the gently sloping clay beach that the sea quickly covered, which fixed them in place for almost 100,000 years.

Analysis of the footprints revealed that they were made by anatomically modern humans who lived in the area during the late Pleistocene era.

Although the reason for the ancient coastal caravan is unknown, researchers hope that further study of the preserved site may reveal more clues to daily life during that time.

However, threats of erosion cause difficulties in deciphering the lives of those ancient humans.
